Guntschach will remain cut off from the outside world at least until mid-December and now those affected must be evacuated. The Carinthian community is desperate for housing.
The situation in storm-ravaged Guntschach in the municipality of Maria Rain remains tense. After the area was – as reported – closed off again from the outside world and Guntschacherstraße will not be open to traffic again until mid-December, the authorities are offering temporary emergency shelter to all those affected: “Even though it is difficult for many, we advise all residents to make use of alternative accommodation,” exclaims Thomas Schurian, Head of Maria Rain.
Anyone who can accommodate should get in touch
So far, 30 of the 50 residents have applied for replacement housing. “We are desperate for more living space. So if you can provide apartments for two to four people near Maria Rain, please contact the municipality!” said the head of the agency.
Holiday apartments and guest rooms of a year-round business in Kirschentheuer have been repaired so far. The move is scheduled for the first week of September. “But it will be possible for citizens to check things in their home country once a week.”
An emergency alert plan was drawn up with all blue light organizations on Thursday “should anyone decide to stay in Guntschach”.
