115 demonstrators marched through the old iron town of Steyr in Upper Austria last Sunday. But the police also punish counter-demonstrators, adding even more fuel to the fire. The red city fathers are tired of the permanent demos, but legally no arrows in their quivers.
“People in our city have endured so-called Sunday walks for centuries. Not prohibiting walks is a matter for the police. The walks create a distorted image of the city, a noisy minority is heard, the reality is different,” said Deputy Mayor Michael Schodermayr’s (SPÖ) Steyrer at the request of “Krone”.
