Shock for a Tyrolean (19) in the Tyrolean Kaunertal on Saturday evening! The woman was driving her car when she was suddenly surprised by two mudslides that thundered onto the road just half a mile apart. The vehicle was locked. The 19-year-old clearly had several guardian angels.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. The 19-year-old was driving on Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße, a private road of the Kaunertaler Gletscherbahnen.
Due to the heavy rainfall, a mudslide about 40 meters wide and two meters high descended onto the road about half a mile from the toll plaza. “About half a mile further down the valley, another mudslide with a large rock had fallen,” the researchers say.
The woman managed to get to safety
The young Tyrolean was apparently trapped between the two Walls. The emergency services found her car during the search. “She was unharmed and was able to retreat to an area and seek shelter there.”
The 19-year-old’s car was unharmed. About 40 Floriani youths from the Kaunertal voluntary fire brigade were deployed with four vehicles. The road is likely to remain closed until Sunday evening or Monday morning.
