On the Westautobahn (A1) between The Hague and Oed (Amstetten district), an animal transport truck overturned and caught fire on Sunday evening. The road towards Vienna was then completely blocked. Two people were injured. There were no animals in the transporter.
The vehicle overturned at kilometer 140 around 8:30 p.m. for unknown reasons, came to a stop on the opposite side of the road and caught fire. Both lanes and the hard shoulder were blocked. The two occupants, an approximately 50-year-old man and a woman of unknown age, were taken to the Amstetten State Hospital with injuries.
Closed towards Vienna
According to Notruf Niederösterreich, the rescue operation involved two rescue vehicles, a rescue helicopter and an emergency doctor’s vehicle.
The Hague and St. Valentin fire brigades were called in to fight the fire and the Amstetten fire brigade also provided a crane to rescue the van involved in the accident.
According to Philipp Gutlederer of the emergency center of the Amstetten fire brigade, the total closure of the road to Vienna will last well into the night.
