A railway bridge collapsed after severe flooding in southern Norway. Parts of the 170-meter long connection are now in the water, broadcaster NRK reports Monday.
The collapsed pillar was already badly damaged by the water masses last week, railway company Bane Nor announced. The area was cordoned off and no one was injured.
Storm “Hans” wreaks havoc
The new building will take time, said the responsible railway manager Sigbjørn Korsgård. Passengers would initially be transported by bus between Lillehammer and Trondheim. Landslides and the significant amount of water had caused damage to several routes, which Bane Nor said had been closed.
The floods were caused by heavy rainfall during storm “Hans”. Landslides had occurred in many places. Several thousand people had to be brought to safety.
