A large-scale search operation was started on the Tyrolean Achensee on Tuesday afternoon after someone reported that a person was in distress. As it turned out, this was not the case.
A drowning accident was reported to the control room. One person swam into the storm and was probably no longer visible afterwards, explains Daniel Paulitsch, commander of the Eben am Achensee fire brigade, who was also involved in the search. “We then went looking with a large contingent,” he says. In addition to the fire brigade, water rescue, police, rescue service and emergency doctor, a helicopter was also deployed. However, no one was found.
The search was called off shortly afterwards. “An eyewitness reported seeing someone coming out of the lake,” explains Commander Paulitsch. The person had probably reached the bank themselves, so an emergency situation should not have existed.
