A serious traffic accident occurred on the southern highway on Wednesday afternoon. In the Großliedl tunnel in Carinthia, a truck first hit a car and then crashed into the tunnel portal. Both drivers were able to get out of the vehicles themselves.
Due to the rain-soaked road, the 46-year-old truck driver from Slovenia may have lost control of the vehicle, which weighs several tons, and hit the car of a 51-year-old man from the Graz area at the entrance to the Großliedl- tunnel, which was traveling in the second lane at the same time, wanted to pass the truck. The car then crashed into the tunnel portal, the truck with a trailer crashed against the left tunnel wall and buckled into the first lane of the tunnel.
The Autobahnmeisterei notified the emergency services. Both drivers, who were injured indefinitely, were able to exit the heavily damaged vehicles under their own power and were then taken by ambulance to Wolfsberg Regional Hospital after first aid. The street cleaning was carried out by employees of Asfinag. The fire brigades of Wolfsberg, Bad St. Leonhard, Preitenegg and Pack were deployed with 54 people. The A2 had to be closed from 12:30 p.m. to 2:35 p.m.
