The perpetrator pursued customers of financial institutions and took the withdrawn amounts from them. The suspect also struck in several states, after a coup in Lower Austria he was caught.
This criminal seems to be a big believer in keeping the money behind him for a long time. Because without rattling coins and rustling bills, he would lose his main source of income. The 57-year-old Günter Z. is accused by the detectives of at least five armed robberies – where the perpetrator was only concerned with money.
Victims were threatened with knives
The procedure was the same every time. The suspect tracked down potential victims at banks and observed them during money transactions or cash withdrawals. Then he followed the victim on the heels and waited for a suitable opportunity: “In a place that seemed convenient to him, the robber masked himself with a hood and raised his collar and got in the way of the victims,” says one criminal. Z. underlined his demand for money with a kitchen knife and a reference to the amounts previously withdrawn from the bank.
As far as is known, Z. struck in four federal states: Styria, Upper Austria, Vienna and most recently in Lower Austria. Here the suspect was arrested by police officers of the Leobersdorf inspection service after raids in Wiener Neustadt and Kottingbrunn, in the Baden district. A case from Feldbach (Styria) shows that Z. was not prudish about his coups. There, the robber cut a woman while taking her purse.
Detectives expect more raids
Z. traveled between 19 and 26 July by bus and train to the five robberies. The detectives assume that more crimes can be attributed to the 57-year-old. Investigations in this regard are still ongoing.
Other victims of the robber must report to the criminal investigation department of Lower Austria: 059133-30-3333.
