More than half of Germans do not want their country to supply Ukraine with cruise missiles. Discontent among AfD voters is particularly great…
According to the ARD “Deutschlandtrend” in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”, 52 percent of eligible voters spoke out against the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. Only 36 percent are in favour, twelve percent are not taking a position.
According to the survey, opposition is particularly strong in East Germany (70 percent), while in West Germany 47 percent are against and 40 percent in favour.
There are also differences based on party preferences. 76 percent of AfD supporters rejected the delivery in the survey, while voters for the Greens (68 percent) and the FDP (56 percent) said they largely agreed.
Reluctant Chancellor
Ukraine has long demanded that the German government provide Taurus cruise missiles for defense against Russia. Chancellor Olaf Scholz was cautious on Sunday. In the ZDF’s “summer interview”, the SPD politician said that, as in the past, the federal government “will always monitor every decision very carefully” – what is going on, what makes sense, what the German contribution would can be.
