In strong winds with gusts (up to 50 km/h), two stand-up paddlers were broken off at Lake Constance in the district of Bregenz (Vorarlberg) on Thursday evening. While one of the two young men was rescued, the second is considered missing after a massive search.
Shortly after 7 p.m., three young men borrowed stand-up paddle boards to take a trip across Lake Constance. However, the conditions became increasingly difficult due to the strong wind.
One of them made it to shore, the other two were swept away. The trio was not equipped with life jackets.
Search for missing persons continues
Before 8 p.m., the emergency services were alerted and around 8:15 p.m. they were able to rescue one of the two men in distress. The plate of the third party involved has been found, but there is no trace of the person. In addition to a few boats, a helicopter was also deployed. However, the police and fire brigade had to call off the operation due to the increasing darkness around 10:10 p.m. The search will continue on Friday.
