After the death of two siblings in Hanau, Hesse, police arrested the wanted suspect in France. It was the 47-year-old father of the children, a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor of Hanau said on Saturday. The children were found Wednesday morning. Police and justice are investigating the man on suspicion of murder.
Investigators from the Hessische Staatsrecherche have succeeded in tracking down the suspect after the crime, according to the police and the Public Prosecution Service. “With the support of other experts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the 47-year-old was located near Paris on Saturday morning and arrested there.”
The man lives in the Rhine-Main area. He reportedly did not resist the arrest. “So far he has not commented on the fact,” it said. The public prosecutor assumes that he will be transferred to Germany in a few weeks and brought before the investigating judge.
According to the spokeswoman, the man has an Indian passport. It was initially unclear whether he also had German nationality.
Boy and girl found dead
The dead siblings are a seven-year-old girl and an eleven-year-old boy. Passers-by had alerted police after they found the seriously injured boy on the ground in front of a high-rise building near Hanau’s market square. He died a short time later in the city hospital of Hanau. The officers found the dead girl on the balcony of an apartment on the ninth floor of the skyscraper.
An autopsy revealed that the girl died of injuries caused by “sharp force in the neck area”. The boy died of multiple internal injuries, which were attributed to a fall from a great height.
Evidence of family background
The detectives had searched for the man under high pressure. On Wednesday they had already discussed an alleged family background in the crime. It is not yet clear where the mother was at the time of the crime. According to the municipality, the youth care office had indications of family problems a few months before the crime.
