Spectacular rescue operation on Saturday morning in the Tyrolean Kalkkögel: a paraglider fell into a crevice during take-off and suffered serious injuries. Due to the alpine location, rescue using a helicopter rope was initially impossible.
The 42-year-old from Rotterdam started around 8.45 am with his paraglider from the top of the “Große Ochsenwand” (2700 meters above sea level) in the Stubai Alps. “Already in the start phase, the man got stuck on a rocky point with the lines of his parachute,” said the Alpine police.
And that had fatal consequences: the Tyrolean then fell several meters into a crevice and suffered serious injuries.
Mountain rescuers abseil to the injured
„Due to the alpine location on site, it was initially not possible for the emergency helicopter to rescue dew, so mountain rescuers and an emergency doctor had to abseil to the seriously injured person,” the researchers continued.
After first aid was provided, the man was freed from his paragliding harness. He could then be rescued with a rope and flown to the clinic in Innsbruck.
