Dramatic scenes played out in the Baden district on Friday evening: a hot air balloon lost altitude over Hirtenberg. “We thought the basket would hit the street in front of us,” eyewitnesses tell of the risky maneuver. Many drivers braked to be on the safe side, others stopped only to watch the spectacle in peace.
A true traffic jam spectacle
After the moment of fright, however, the balloon regained altitude and floated away over the forest. The pilot later explained that it was a corrective maneuver and not an attempted emergency landing. The “touchdown” succeeded shortly afterwards on the nearby sports field.
