On the way to the Zugspitze – car caught fire: father and son escaped inferno

Date:

Shock for a German and his adult son on Sunday afternoon in the Ausserfern in Tyrol: on the way to the Zugspitz valley station in Ehrwald, their car suddenly caught fire. Fortunately, the two occupants managed to get to safety in time. This was not the first vehicle fire this weekend in Tyrol.

The father-son team was on Zugspitzstrasse in Ehrwald shortly before 11:30 am when a fire suddenly broke out in the car’s engine compartment. The flames then spread and within a very short time the car was completely engulfed.

Holidaymakers were shocked
The two Germans were able to leave the vehicle in time. “They were unharmed,” the police described by “Krone” when asked. The alarmed fire brigades of Ehrwald and Lermoos advanced and were finally able to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unclear and is the subject of further investigation, police said. The car was a total loss.

Also lights up on the Fernpass and on the Autobahn
Two vehicle fires had already broken out in Tyrol on Saturday. In the afternoon, a minibus caught fire at the Fern Pass. The German driver (45) managed to get himself, his wife and the two-year-old child to safety before the vehicle caught fire.

And in the evening a Bosnian’s car caught fire on the Inntalautobahn shortly after the Roppentunnel. Fortunately, the man was unharmed.
