As has only just been known, three police officers from Vienna-Liesing were rescued in mid-April: a 73-year-old had choked himself so badly on a piece of apple that he was in danger of suffocation…
On April 11, police trainee Jasmin J., group inspector Günther W. and inspector Jürgen S. were summoned to an apartment in the Liesing district. There they first met an excited woman (69). She told the officers that her husband (73) has swallowed a piece of apple and is now not breathing!
The three officers immediately sprang into action, removing the apple from the man’s mouth and using the so-called Heimlich maneuver to clear the pensioner’s airway. And indeed, shortly afterwards breathing started again.
CPR was continued with an emergency doctor, who arrived a short time later. The patient was then taken to hospital. The man has since made a full recovery from the life-threatening incident.
