So what are the Kremlin’s real war goals in Ukraine? So far it has been officially said that the regions of Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson, now enshrined in the Russian constitution, should actually come under Russian control, shocked ex-president Dmitry Medvedev with far more fatal plans.
President Vladimir Putin’s confidante recently spoke of a “war of self-preservation” in a post on his Telegram channel. “Either we will destroy their enemy leadership, or the collective West will eventually tear Russia apart. In that case, he dies with us,” warned the deputy head of Russia’s Security Council. To survive, the entire Ukrainian state must be “destroyed” so that “only ashes remain”.
Puppet regime under Russian control
They would be replaced by a puppet regime under the complete control of Moscow. Medvedev is also quite confident that Russia will make it – “even if the war will last for years or decades”.
Western sanctions against his country would not change that either. After all, according to Medvedev, Western states would “never harm their own interests”. “A distant war will sooner or later become boring, expensive and unimportant.” Medvedev’s conclusion: “The defeat of the West and Ukraine is inevitable.”
Selenskyj is confident of victory after the deployment of the F-16
Of course, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sees things differently. “Today we are confident that Russia will lose this war,” the Ukrainian head of state said Monday outside the parliament building in Copenhagen. He is sure that Ukraine will win “because the truth is on our side”. The day before, the Dutch and Danish governments had promised the delivery of F-16 fighter jets.
Around the turn of the year – later than hoped – the Ukraine will receive its first F-16. The fighter jets will be delivered once the Ukrainian pilots have completed their training on the machines.
