Presidential Election – First Republican TV debate without Trump

The leading US Republican presidential candidates — but not much-beloved ex-President Donald Trump — face each other in their first televised debate on Wednesday night. Former President Trump had previously decided not to participate.

Eight conservative politicians, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis HalHaley and ex-New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, will participate in the discussion, which will be broadcast by far-right Fox News.

The other participants in the debate in Milwaukee (8 p.m. local time – Thursday 3 a.m. CEST) in the northern US state of Wisconsin are Senator Tim Scott, governor of North Dakota, Doug Burgum, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former president of Arizona. Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Former President Trump justified his rejection with the huge lead he has in polls over his internal party rivals. The primaries for the November 2024 presidential election, which are spread over several months, begin on January 15.
