“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Former US President Donald Trump and Fox News host Tucker Carlson took this saying to heart. They united against Fox News on Platform X (formerly Twitter).
The news channel fired one of its familiar faces for expressing completely different views on Trump in private messages than on camera. But that didn’t stop Trump from giving the star host an exclusive interview at the same time as his presidential candidates’ televised debate.
Trump too popular for TV
While his fellow campaigners battled verbally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the evening could hardly have gone better for Trump, as he received the undivided attention of Tucker Carlson.
In addition, his interview was broadcast at the same time, making it a safe alternative for the 77-year-old politician. He justified his visit to Carlson by saying that as a leader he didn’t have to be on the discussion stage. Trump: “The polls are out. I’m leading with 50 and 60 points. Some of them are on one and zero and two. Am I supposed to sit there for an hour or two, whatever it is, and be harassed by people who shouldn’t even be running for president?”
Does Trump fear for his life?
You don’t have to, Trump claims that ‘Fox News’ isn’t particularly friendly to him anyway. The ex-president also described his political opponents — so Democrats like President Joe Biden — as wild animals who were really sick when the moderator asked him if he thought his opponents would kill him.
Criticism and Mike Pence again
Trump again criticized his former Vice President Mike Pence for refusing to annul the January 6, 2021 election results. Trump remains convinced that Pence would have had the authority to send the election results back to the United States. When asked if the country was headed for civil war, Carlson referred to the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. “There’s a level of passion I’ve never seen, there’s a level of hatred I’ve never seen before. and that’s probably an unfavorable combination.”
Trump more popular than ever
With this performance, Donald Trump can dwarf the competition. While the official TV debate was still going on, Trump’s video about “X” has already been viewed more than 84 million times. The interview should be taken as a swipe at Trump’s Republican Party as well as Tucker Carlson’s at his former employer Fox News.
Despite the 77-year-old facing massive legal troubles, now totaling four charges, he is the overwhelming favorite in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Whoever wants to become the party’s presidential candidate must first win the party’s internal primaries. A new president will be elected in the US in early November 2024.
