Big fuss in Italy because tourists treat monuments and memorials with disrespect. Two young people climbed the copy of the statue of Michelangelo’s masterpiece David in Florence’s Piazzale Michelangelo on Thursday evening. The boy and young woman were filmed climbing onto the statue’s base and clinging to the statue’s legs.
The said video was published on social networks and caused outrage. The place where the statue stands has a beautiful view of the city of Florence.
The original statue of David, made from a single block of marble, has been kept in the Galleria dell’Accademia since 1873. It shows the biblical David at the moment when he was about to launch a catapult into battle against the giant Goliath. The nude Bible statue was created by Michelangelo between 1501 and 1504 and is considered the epitome of masculine beauty.

More and more debates arise about tourists not respecting monuments. Two German holidaymakers were only reported on Wednesday for daubing the pillars of Florence’s famous Vasari Corridor, which connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace. The men are said to have smeared a total of seven pillars of the historic corridor with the letters and numbers “DKS 1860” and also the interior with black paint. The young men were identified through video footage from the surveillance camera.
Initial letters in the wall of the Colosseum
Travelers to Italy have also been caught carving their initials into a wall of the Colosseum in Rome. Culture Minister Gennero Sangennaro was outraged by the incidents.
