Drama in Northern Italy: A nine-year-old boy from Germany was stung by a hornet while on vacation in a farmhouse garden. A few hours later he was dead, dying of anaphylactic shock. His organs were removed at the hospital in the city of Alessandria.
As various Italian media report, the accident happened on Wednesday at a picnic area near the farm. The boy was on holiday with his parents and sister (6). The hornet’s venom, which entered the bloodstream, caused instant cardiac arrest.
The parents immediately began chest compressions, which were then continued by the arriving doctors. After about an hour, the heart started beating again and after the intubation the boy was transported to the children’s hospital in Alessandria. However, the situation worsened. After 48 hours of observation, the nine-year-old was pronounced dead.
Complex liver transplant in Turin
The child’s kidneys were implanted in a husband and wife in Turin on Friday. The liver was transplanted into an adult Piedmontese patient suffering from cirrhosis of the liver and being treated at the Molinette Hospital in Turin for a chronic hepatic encephalopathy that left him severely disabled. The operation took twelve hours.
The boy’s heart was removed and transplanted to a child in Bologna hospital. Both lungs were donated to a child in the hospital in Padua.
