Children at risk: what to do about media addiction and cyberbullying

The internet is a dangerous place for children if not properly supervised. But parents can take several precautions to protect their children from outright media addiction, cyberbullying, and the like.

Cases of media addiction among children and young people have doubled during the pandemic, according to a German study. In fact, in Austria too, calls for help are coming in from desperate parents hoping for quick help. But if the hat is already on fire, there is usually no therapy spot.

Helga W. knows that too: her son Matthias, age 15, had lost control of his computer games, as she says: “Every attempt by me to limit his screen time has escalated. Matthias became violent towards me when I turned off the Wi-Fi At home we had pure hell.”
