Shortly after takeoff, a Vienna-to-New York Boeing 767-300 ER aborted its flight and had to begin circling over Lower Austria shortly after 5 p.m. The heavily loaded long-distance aircraft has now landed back in Vienna, the cause is not yet known.
Bad luck for the more than 200 passengers of the Boeing 767-300 ER, which departed at 5 p.m.: instead of flying to New York, the plane with the registration OE-LAY had to circle north of Lake Neusiedl. The plane landed back in Schwechat about 45 minutes after takeoff.
“Bird Strike” Rumors
It is currently unknown whether it is a technical defect or whether a passenger on board is ill. Rumor has it that it was a bird strike, that is, a bird strike shortly after take-off.
The machine circled at an altitude of 5,000 feet, that is, about 1.5 kilometers above the ground, before it landed back in Vienna, heavily loaded. A “Krone” request to Austrian Airlines is currently being followed up by the airline.
