On Monday night, Russia had to fend off several drone attacks in Ukraine: air traffic at the two airports Domodedovo and Vnukovo was temporarily suspended – after a “drone flying towards Moscow” was destroyed in the Lyubertsy district. Two planes were also shot down near the Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin informed about the incident in the capital via Telegram on Monday. The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced that the air defense system destroyed a drone over the Lyubertsy district at around 04:30 (03:30 CEST). It blamed Kiev for the attack attempt. As the state news agency TASS reported, citing the aviation authority, air traffic at Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports in Moscow was suspended.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense announced on Telegram that two more drones had been destroyed by anti-aircraft fire over the Bryansk region on the border with Ukraine. The ministry initially declined to comment on possible casualties or damage.
Three civilians killed in recent drone strike
In recent days, both the Russian capital and other regions of Russia have increasingly become the target of Ukrainian drone strikes. Authorities say three civilians were killed last week in the Belgorod region by an explosive device fired by Ukrainian forces from a drone. On the same day, a drone hit a high-rise building in a Moscow business district.

For Ukraine, the use of F-16 fighter jets would be a game changer
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov assumed that the F-16 fighter jets would be used against Russia from the spring. “I would say this could be in the spring of next year,” he told the Ronzheimer podcast, according to a pre-announcement from the “Bild” newspaper. The Western planes are likely to prove to be a “serious game-changer” in the battle against Russian forces.
