Not a week goes by without sad news like this. Animal shelters across the country are groaning under the endless number of abandoned dogs, cats and small animals. Animal shelter Vösendorf now reports a particularly sad case, because the puppies were still hanging on their umbilical cord.
The incident happened next to a container for used clothes in Vienna’s 23rd district. The newborn pups were lucky enough to be noticed by an attentive passerby. He rescued the little four-legged friends and immediately took them to the animal shelter in Vösendorf.
critical condition
“When they arrived at the animal shelter, the puppies were in critical condition. When they are hypothermic, dehydrated and weak, it is often difficult to assess whether the little ones will survive,” explains animal shelter manager Stephan Scheidl. “Unfortunately, the puppies are not yet out of the most dangerous phase. However, we hope that despite their difficult starting conditions, they will make it and grow into healthy, strong dogs thanks to the involved medical care of the animal caretakers. Today they opened their eyes for the first time.”
The five puppies are currently bottle-fed every three hours. “You mustn’t forget that raising young animals involves an enormous amount of work. Young animals need to be fed every few hours – even at night – to grow big and strong.” adds the animal rights activist. Tierschutz Austria is an animal welfare organization financed purely by donations, which relies on donations to finance the rearing milk, especially in situations like this.
Asked information
“Maybe someone will come up with clues, because there must be a mother somewhere. This act is so cruel, I have no words for it,” says Tierecke boss Maggie Entenfellner. Leaving animals behind can be punished with a maximum of 7500 euros.
