From the west, a cold front opens its floodgates above Austria. The level of the Inn in Tyrol was already alarmingly high on Monday and the Rhine at Vorarlberg is under water. The emergency services are also extra alert in Carinthia. But why are heavy rains, which are becoming more frequent due to climate change, such a big threat today? And how do you prepare for flooding? We asked a water expert.
Thomas Hein is deputy head of the Institute of Hydrobiology and Water Management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna. He is also involved in the National Science Center for Biodiversity and Water at the Danube University Krems.
