Judge Tanya Chutkan has announced the date when the judicial process will begin for her alleged interference in overturning the result of the 2020 election.
U.S. Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, charged with the trial of the former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) over attempts to annul the 2020 election, announced today Monday that the trial date is March 4, 2024.
The magistrate, who will judge the case that culminated in the storming of the capital made the announcement on January 6, 2021 after a hearing in Washington.
The chosen date is one day before super tuesdaywhich in the United States is closest to a national primaryas more than a dozen states, both Republican and Democrat, will have internal processes to choose their candidates at the same time.
The former president is accused of it in Washington DC four charges: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
For the first of these charges, you could be sentenced to up to five years imprisonment, for the second and third twenty years’ imprisonment, respectively, and for the fourth, ten year.
Monday’s announcement came minutes after it was announced that the indictment of the former president and 18 other defendants in Georgia over attempts to reverse the results of that state’s 2020 election will take place next year. September 6. All 19 will then have a chance to plead guilty or not guilty.
