In the US state of Nevada, climate activists blocked a way to the Burning Man festival. A video now shows rangers driving straight into the blockade. A police officer even grabs his gun and threatens to shoot.
American journalist Michelle Lhooq shared a video of the police operation on Platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. It shows how Nevada rangers get caught up in a blockade by climate activists. The officers get out, one of them, pistol in hand, tells the group to leave the road and clear the way.
It remains with the aggressive tone. The American police officer attacks an activist, who then falls to the ground. Neither the second officer nor the bystanders intervene in the incident. They observe what is happening, take pictures or just sit on the street. Finally, the other police officer grabs the activist’s feet. She and a colleague are arrested, according to a second video on X.
Here you can watch the videos shared by the journalist.
Gunfire warning?
The area around the blockade would have been stormed with firearms. A Nevada ranger told the journalist she had received a distress call before the operation, Michelle Lhooq later wrote. It said that a person from the crowd wanted to shoot the activists.
Burning Man is an annual festival in the Black Rock Desert attended by over 75,000 people. During the festival, a temporary city is created in the desert for nine days, including a hospital and airport, which is completely dismantled afterwards. The group, now blocking the road to Burning Man, is demanding, among other things, a ban on the entry of private jets and single-use plastics.
