Monday night there were wild scenes in the center of Vienna. At least ten men suddenly attacked each other – a mass brawl ensued.
Patrol officers noticed the wild scuffle around 2 a.m. and immediately intervened. At that moment, one of the men (24) was about to hit another opponent with a wooden crossbar. The victim suffered deep cuts on his back and a hematoma on his arm.
Escape attempt failed
Soon after, he tried to flee after noticing the police officers. However, the officers were able to prevent the escape in time and arrest the suspect. Another participant, also 24, was recognized by police after escaping and widely reported.
The large-scale operation involved numerous officers from the inner city police command, the Vienna Standby Unit, the Vienna State Investigation Agency and the Vienna Police Service Dog.
