The hold full of migrants – this is how a smuggler drove away in Hungary with a police van. At the border in Deutschkreutz he turned and ran back towards Sopron. The refugee transporter crashed into the car of an Austrian. Five accident victims came to the hospital!
Hungarian authorities report shocking news about an operation against illegal migration. As has become known, a terrible accident took place last week on road 84 between Kópháza (Kohlbenhof) and Sopron.
Crash with bad consequences
With more than a dozen refugees – crammed into the hold – a tractor in a van collided with an Austrian’s car. The woman and four others involved were seriously injured and all had to be taken to hospital.
Runaway control
“The accomplice of a gang of smugglers, who was driving the van, was on the run from the Hungarian police,” said an official at the central service. Earlier, the smuggler should have noticed Hungarian police officers during his refugee transport from Sopron to the Austrian border, they wanted to check him.
Wild hunt
The suspect ran off and police immediately gave chase. The smuggler drove at breakneck speed to the Deutschkreutz border crossing. There he made an abrupt U-turn and thundered back towards Sopron – until it crashed after only a few kilometers.
The driver of the accident took off
“The accident on highway 84 happened on Tuesday morning,” the Györ-Moson-Sopron county administration confirms the sensational operation. After the crash, the tractor – dazed by the impact – jumped out of the van and ran away.
Quick arrest
Shortly afterwards, the perpetrator was arrested by the police. “The Austrian executive was not involved,” it says. The investigation beyond the state border is in full swing: “The case dramatically demonstrates the danger posed by unscrupulous traffickers on the road.”
