The war in Ukraine has had a serious impact on the country’s education system. According to the UN children’s fund UNICEF, more than 1,300 schools have been destroyed as a result of the Russian war of aggression.
Russia’s continued attacks also meant that only about a third of school-aged children were able to attend regular face-to-face classes. In addition, many students would forget the material they had already learned.
Children ‘deeply disturbed’ and ‘with no safe place to study’
“Within Ukraine, attacks on schools continue unabated, leaving children deeply distressed and deprived of a safe space to study,” said UNICEF. The situation is not much better for children who have fled abroad with their families. More than half of Ukrainian children registered in seven countries do not attend school in their host country.
