A major alarm went off on Tuesday afternoon in the border area between Mutters and the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck. The reason: A passer-by saw two ownerless kayaks floating in the high-water sill and informed Tyrol’s control center.
The emergency services were alerted around 3:45 p.m. The Fire brigades from Mutters and Innsbruck, the water rescue service, the rescue service, a helicopter and the police then set out. The kayaks were sighted in the vicinity of the Sill Bridge in Mutters-Gärberbach. The mother’s fire department was the first on the scene. She knew a Pole rescue with a line from the rushing water and save the kayak.
Colleagues could save themselves
“He stated that he was traveling with two other people, but they had broken down,” said Martin Tanzer, commander of the Mutters fire department. While the emergency services were preparing to come to the aid of the man’s colleagues, they were able to reach them by telephone. Apparently they were also able to save themselves after capsizing on the coast. “After about 30 minutes, all three people arrived at the surgery center and were examined by the rescue service or the emergency physician,” concludes Tanzer. The operation took about an hour and a half.
