Several Bürmooser are still in uncertainty after the storm damage. Because a forest owner in Salzburg puts himself across the street, they cannot use their houses.
These are anxious hours for Michael Grundner. During the violent storm on Saturday evening, a spruce tree fell on his house in Bürmoos. The house next door was evacuated and is still not allowed to enter. “We don’t really dare to go into the house anymore,” says Grundner. Although the visible damage is limited, he currently only uses his home to sleep. As reported, two large spruce trees threaten to fall on the adjacent building.
Apartment building evacuated
The apartment complex has therefore been evacuated since Saturday evening. The trees lean towards the building. The fact that the residents do not know when they can enter the building again is due to the owner of the forest. He also did not take care of his trees on Monday. The forest owner is waiting for a decision from the municipality, but there is no legal basis for this.
Mayor Cornelia Ecker (SPÖ) tries to influence the forest owner through all channels, from the Agriculture Chamber to the state government. So far no success. “We have already pointed out to him that he is liable if something happens,” says Ecker.
Grundner explains that it is wrong to build too close to the property line, as the forest owner argues. “We built in 2015. There were construction negotiations and everything was fine,” he says. Relations with neighbors are difficult. “We don’t want a lawsuit, we just want to get our rest and our house in order,” says the man from Bürmoos.
Large bodies of water in Bad Gastein
In many other cities in Salzburg, the violent storm also caused large amounts of water on Monday. A huge waterfall caused a stir in Bad Gastein.
Not everything clear yet
The ÖBB also warned about the flood situation. Several routes had to be interrupted. A general all-clear cannot be given on Tuesday either. In the morning hours it started to rain again. The storm has now also reached Upper Austria. Multiple storm damage is also expected here.
