Market agents survey – majority refuses to provide news about Corona

Date:

People in this country in particular often avoid news about Corona (58 percent). This is followed by celebrities (37 percent) and war (35 percent), as a representative survey of market agents now shows.

A total of 1,000 people were surveyed online. One in four of them would rather not deal with news about the climate crisis; this applies to one in five respondents when it comes to domestic politics. The reasons are different. Many survey participants do not want to hear anything about Corona anymore, some doubt its truth or criticize that it is always the same. However, negative emotions often play a role in war, but here too the truth is distrusted.

No interest in domestic politics
When it comes to domestic politics and celebrity news, respondents often say they are simply not interested. A quarter are tired of domestic political reporting. According to the research, topics that people prefer to focus on are health, regional events, regional politics and nutrition. “It doesn’t seem to be so much a case of general dissatisfaction with news, but rather a conscious and purposeful move away from certain content,” says Thomas Schwabl, Managing Director of Marketagent.

Many “pragmatists”
Overall, 82 percent also said they were interested in current events. Just over four in ten (44 percent) can be classified as ‘news pragmatists’. You discover the essence, but keep the details. In contrast, 16 percent classify themselves as “news junkies” who always try to stay informed. Right behind them are the “news grumblers” who often cannot bring themselves to gather more information.

There were differences by age. Older people – surveyed in the age category 14 to 75 years – follow current news more often than young people. Those who actively avoid news want quality, less manipulative reporting.
