In October, FACUA-Consumers in Action carried out a new monitoring of the evolution of almost a thousand foodstuffs affected by the VAT reduction in eight major distribution chains: Alcampo, Aldi, Carrefour, Dia, Eroski, Lidl, Hipercor and Mercadona.

52% of foods with reduced VAT are already more expensive than when the measure came into effect, according to data from the latest price monitoring carried out by Facua-Consumidores and Acción on almost a thousand foods affected by the VAT reduction in eight major distribution chains in October (Alcampo, Aldi, Carrefour, Dia, Eroski, Lidl, Hipercor and Mercadona).

The association has the evolution of 963 foods in these eight distribution chains on October 2, 3, 10 and 11. It found that the price at 505, that is, 52.4%, has become more expensive compared to what they had on December 30, when the VAT reduction was applied.

The consumer organization has noted that the increases have taken place has gradually increased since January. So while in the first month of the year only increases of 6.7% were observed, in February this was 17.4%, in March 30.8%, in April 42%, in May 43.8%, in June 44.7%, in July 47%. , in August 48.4%, in September 48.9% and in October 52.4%.

Of the 505 total prices in which Facua has noted an increase, 153 correspond fruits or vegetables (30.2% of the total), 103 are olive oil (20.3%) and 73 are milk and dairy products (14.4%). In turn, 72 price increases have been observed for rice and pasta (14.2%) and 47 for legumes (9.3%). The remaining 57 increases correspond to eggs, flour and bread.

This is evident from Facua’s report Hypercor leads the highest number of price increases in October after increasing the price of 109 of the total 164 prices analyzed, which amounts to 66.4%, followed by Carrefour (60%), To field (57.2%), aldi (54.3%), Eroski (50.3%) and indoors Lidl Of the 62 items considered, 30 have become more expensive (48.3%), Mercadona (39.7%) and Dia (38.1%).

On the other hand, the consumer organization has reiterated in a statement that according to the Royal Decree under which the measure is in force, no of these products The price could increase unless there are cost increases.
