Aware that the voice of the nationalist forces will be “essential” for the investiture in the Spanish government, the lehendakari has Inigo Urkullu has underlined that, faced with this “new opportunity”, the Basque Government is committed to: through the ‘political dialogue’ and institutional, once”a state model“To give Euskadi a bigger and better self-government.

This is precisely one of the challenges for the executive at the end of the inauguration, as the Lehendakari emphasized in the traditional appearance after the meeting of the Board of Directors at the Miramar Palace in San Sebastián, where formal embark on the political course. This course will be the last of the parliamentary term, which is waiting for the lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, to call elections for the Basque Parliament.

The Lehendakari has discussed the three ‘difficult’ years faced by both citizens and authorities. “A collective accident,” he said, “that has shaken our stability and shaped our standards of well-being and coexistence.”

Regarding the aspects to be worked on in the rest of the legislature, Urkullu mentioned the “new opportunity” created after the general election with the modified parliamentary arithmetic that makes the votes of Basque, Catalan and Galician nationalists “necessary” for any investment. An opportunity that, in his opinion, should serve to “deal with the problem of the territoriality of the state that the transition has not yet been resolved.”

“We advocate a state model that also responds to the current situation and Euskadi’s aspirations. A model that gives more entity and capacity to the Basque institutions. That makes it possible making decisions from a closer environment, more local, from which there is a greater knowledge of reality. This is how we have included it in our government program, reaffirming for this term of office our commitment to extend and improve the self-government of the Basque Country,” he claimed.

Health, education, employment and housing are among the priorities

In addition, he has stressed the need to “keep working” on improving, with investment, public services such as health, security, social services and education. “They are the cornerstone of our wellness model,” he stressed.

However, it has warned that this investments must be taken ‘with accuracy and seriousness’ and always ‘applying the principle of realismwithout risking our future’, since ‘one wrong step can and will have consequences that we will all suffer,’ he reasoned.

in matters of employment opportunitiesThe Basque government hopes that the Basque Country will surpass and consolidate the one million people connected to social security, and will continue to create employment, “a quality job that offers good working conditions and is well paid”. In this sense, he mentioned the importance of providing good working conditions to young people as the key to their emancipation.

Similarly, he wanted to mention that the coalition executive “will continue to bet on his policy of residence“, which has been developing in the Basque Country for more than thirty years. “We will continue to intensify the promotion of public housing and guarantee subjective rights,” he stressed.

Urkullu has alluded to the struggle for “real and effective” equality or the commitment to the sustainable human development model. Finally, he announced that they will continue their commitment to the establishment of an Atlantic Macro-region and negotiations with all parliamentary groups in order to approve the 2024 budgets “with the utmost support”.
