Thank you – Floods in Tyrol: the many heroes of the flood!

Date:

Hope, fear – and finally a sigh of relief: the flood situation in Tyrol at the beginning of the week was hardly to be surpassed in terms of drama. Despite much damage, the country again escaped with a black eye. Especially thanks to the emergency services. The numerous aid workers from organizations, governments and far beyond have proven that aid exists in the most diverse forms – and that it is needed.

They left their jobs or sacrificed days off to carry sandbags or provide medical care. While the rest of Tyrol slept, they stayed awake, pumping out cellars, excavating reservoirs and monitoring roadblocks.

We are talking about the Tyroleans who helped protect our country from worse on Monday.

In action on many fronts
While firefighters and community workers were busy building protective walls, the rescue team distributed resources on both sides of the Inn in case of bridge closures. The water rescue was also ready from the early hours of the morning. Everything also went smoothly in the control center in Tyrol, where the employees processed 250 events within a few hours.

Private individuals also helped: “More than 60 people made themselves available as part of the neighborhood help”, reports the city of Wörgl. Elsewhere, effectively closed restaurants opened to feed emergency services.

Thanks from Governor Mattle
LH Anton Mattle also praised the authorities and task forces: “The predictions and warnings were essential. The experts from GeoSphere and the Hydrographic Service have done a very good job and laid an important basis for decision-making.”

Where damage has occurred, many hands have already been busy on Tuesday to repair it. When many different helpers work together, such events can be overcome more easily.
