Once again, the veterinary authority in Weiz had to move after an anonymous tip to keep the animals appalling – and the dedicated vets immediately sprang into action and arranged the acceptance: when the authority visited, three sheepdogs were kept in completely dirty, narrow boxes in the basement, had hardly any light, no food, no water! Two other animals lived out their miserable existence in a car trailer.
Unfortunately, Styria’s official veterinarians have already witnessed a lot of animal cruelty and terrible conditions for living beings – but this attitude is again a nightmare. In the Weiz district, when the veterinarians followed up on an anonymous tip, an attitude was discovered that is beyond words. “I found five dogs, three of which were kept in the dark, like in a basement dungeon,” says the very empathetic vet Kerstin Schön. “At the time of our visit there were no dog beds, food or water. The animals sat in the dark on a bare wooden floor with some straws.”
But that’s not all: a dog transporter was found in a garage, in which permanent keeping would of course be absolutely forbidden – two young four-legged friends were also locked up in it. “And according to the reporter, they were held there almost all the time!” In the dark, without social contact and in a small space where the animals could hardly turn around. And in the basement dungeon it was no better with four square meters per dog.
Two of the dogs are only seven months old and have already experienced terrible things. “They are traumatized. In addition to the catastrophic posture, they show clear torment characteristics such as the typical low back,” says the “Noah’s Ark”, where the animals are now housed. Three also had chains around their necks without a pull stop, which have long been banned.
The holders, most of whom were completely unreasonable (“That’s how we’ve always done it”), were reported. You are threatened with a pet ban.
