In an interview with Conny Winiwarter, renowned behavioral profiler Patricia Staniek provides in-depth insights into the world of profiling. She says, “Psychopaths aren’t necessarily bad people.” Power attracts these people like moths to a flame. “Psychopaths often hold management positions.” And that’s not necessarily bad news.
“Profiling is excellence in knowing human nature,” says Patricia Staniek, summarizing her profession. In principle, anyone can become a profiler. “But the person has to get past me,” she smiles. Because Staniek is the only one who offers training to become a certified profiler recognized by the WKO.
“Silence of the Lambs”? Are you joking? Are you serious?
Those who now think of dark rooms, stern looks and dangerous serial killers – comparable to the film ‘Silence of the Lambs’ – are wrong: ‘A behavioral profiler is not the same as a criminal profiler’, explains Staniek. In practice, for example, she helps companies find suitable candidates.
“You’re Looking for a Psychopath”
There are many psychopaths in leaders. And that is not always a bad thing: ‘Psychopaths have a high willingness to take risks, they can succeed in giving companies a good economic basis.’ That’s exactly the kind of person that many companies want. But where there is light, there is also shadow: “Psychopaths act from the ambush.” Empathy is a foreign word to them.
