At the start of the new school year in Russia, President Vladimir Putin spoke to schoolchildren near Moscow on Friday and explained to them that Russia is absolutely invincible.
“I understood why we won the Great Patriotic War (World War II). It is impossible to defeat such a nation with such an attitude. We were absolutely invincible. And so are we now,” Putin said at a talk entitled “Important Conversations” in Solnechnogorsk, a small town in Moscow Oblast.
Meeting with the Chinese head of state announced
At the event, Putin also announced that he would like to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in the near future. “Events will be held soon and there will be a meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China,” he said.
However, Putin did not give an exact time for the meeting with Xi Jinping or other details. A few weeks ago, however, the Kremlin had already announced that the president would travel to China in October, when the Silk Road Summit would take place there.
Putin is increasingly isolated internationally
The war of aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for a year and a half, has left Russia increasingly isolated internationally. A visit to key partner China would be Putin’s first trip abroad since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him last March for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.
