Terrible traffic accident late Friday evening in Oberndorf in the Tyrolean district of Kitzbühel: a 19-year-old resident hit a cyclist (63) while overtaking with his car, who was wearing dark clothing and without lights. The local population was seriously injured and had to be resuscitated.
The devastating accident happened around 10:45 p.m. The 19-year-old resident was driving his car, which also included his brother (22), on the B178 Loferer Straße from Going am Wilden Kaiser towards St. Johann when he wanted to overtake another car at Oberndorf.
On the road unlit and dressed in dark clothing
“After the young man started to overtake, his car collided head-on with a cyclist on the oncoming vehicle. According to previous knowledge, the 63-year-old traveled without lights and wore dark clothing,” the police said.
Car thrown across the street
The cyclist was thrown over the vehicle by the force of the impact and then landed on the roadway, where he lay motionless and seriously injured. “Subsequent drivers immediately rendered first aid. They initiated resuscitation measures and moved the rescue chain,” the researchers continued.
Taken to hospital with rescue
The seriously injured could eventually be stabilized by the emergency doctor by means of CPR. He was then taken by ambulance to St. Johann District Hospital. The man’s condition is critical, police said.
Both the bicycle and the car were badly damaged. The B178 was closed for an hour at the location of the accident.
