A farmer in Millstatt (Carinthia) was injured during hay work on Monday. The man was run over in the chest by his work equipment.
The 76-year-old farmer had turned over the mown hay in a meadow near his home. The device, which weighed about 250 kilograms, jumped out of gear. The tedder then rolled backwards over the steeply sloping terrain. The man fell to the ground and was pushed to the ground by the self-propelled work machine.
Woman raised the alarm
The wife of the Upper Carinthian woman noticed the accident and immediately set the rescue chain in motion. The farmer was flown by the RK 1 rescue helicopter team with injuries of an undetermined nature to the hospital in Villach.
