Drugged – police stop truck: driver faces 21 charges

A tanker truck driver’s risky driving style led to a surprising discovery on Wednesday morning: the 48-year-old was under the influence of drugs and had ignored his rest periods when he came into the police’s sights. But that was just the beginning; the consequences for him were far-reaching.

This probably surprises even experienced police officers: A 48-year-old truck driver who had loaded hundreds of liters of flammable tank residues was driving under the influence of drugs on Vienna’s southeastern ring road on Wednesday morning.

Officers from the Vienna Dangerous Goods Control Group noticed his unsafe driving style and arrested the man. The check not only revealed drug use, but also that the driver had ignored the prescribed rest periods.

Record number of 21 advertisements
The police then confiscated his driver’s license. A replacement driver had to continue the journey. A total of 21 charges have been filed against the man – for violating traffic rules, the Motor Vehicle Act and EU regulations on driving times.
