Shock moment in Burgenland. During his routine Tuesday morning drive in the Güssing district, the driver of a public bus winced in horror. As he drove past a construction site, the shovel of an excavator came at him and slammed into the windshield. He escaped with his life a hair’s breadth away.
The driver of the Südburg company was on Tuesday on the Landesstraße 385 from Olbendorf to Oberdorf. Around 07:00 he passed a construction site.
“Everything went so fast”
Suddenly the arm of an excavator mounted on a flatbed truck swung in the direction of the bus. The shovel collided with the vehicle, right where the steering wheel was.
good luck
Driver Fritz H. reacted sharply: “I jumped out of my seat in a flash and threw myself aside, otherwise the excavator would have caught me.”
The 57-year-old had several guardian angels. Except for whiplash syndrome, for which he was diagnosed in hospital, he and the six passengers on the bus escaped unhurt.
second birthday
Now bus driver Fritz H. from Güttenbach has two reasons to be happy: “Tomorrow I will be 58. Today I can celebrate my second birthday.” We are glad that no one is injured,” emphasizes Südburg director Siegfried Tanczos.
