Leading simulation researcher Niki Popper’s degree and dissertation met scientific standards. This appears from an external report commissioned by the Vienna University of Technology (TU). The plagiarism process is therefore stopped.
According to the Vienna University of Technology, the report confirms that Popper’s own research, which became known during the corona pandemic, is worthy of a dissertation and excluded. “The detailed external review does not admit any intent to mislead.”
Here’s a tweet from simulation researcher Niki Popper.
Moreover, an extensive internal university report shows that there is no doubt about the originality of Popper’s thesis. However, the allegations that passages of text from other works were copied from other works were sometimes inaccurately identified. In this way, the current citation practice in mathematics and computer science is contradicted. At this point, however, the report also points to the high complexity of the work, based on 25 publications by Popper and his team.
Weber’s allegations
Plagiarism examiner Stefan Weber brought forward the allegations against Popper. The Vienna University of Technology then initiated a corresponding administrative procedure. The examination procedure for the diploma thesis was completed in June. This analysis also showed no plagiarism. Popper can thus obtain both his academic degree “Dipl.Ing.” if the title “Dr.techn.” retain.
