Two bodies have been found on the east coast of Mallorca. It may be two German sailors who have been missing since August 27. A DNA analysis was ordered in both cases, police said.
The two dead are no longer visually identifiable. The result of the analysis should be available within two to three weeks. The first body was discovered by passersby on Sunday evening near Cala Morlanda. However, the sea was so turbulent that the police could not recover the body until nearly ten kilometers further south on Monday. This person was wearing only a swimsuit.
The second body was finally seen in Porto Cristo on Monday evening. In this case too, high waves made rescue difficult, which was only possible on Tuesday. The two bodies may be two missing German sailors, aged 53 and 19, police said.
The father and his son left Menorca two weeks ago on Sunday. Despite a storm warning, they wanted to cover about 90 kilometers with the Frankfurt-registered sailboat “Makan Angin”. When relatives had not heard from the two on the evening of August 27, they alerted the police. The rescue service then searched for the sailors at sea with ships and from the air. The bodies were found en route to the intended port of destination.
