The Croatian tourism sector is so far satisfied with the way the holiday season has progressed. In the first eight months, the record figures from the same period of the pre-crisis year 2019 were reached.
The Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) reported that the Adriatic country recorded 16.2 million tourists and 88.5 million overnight stays at the end of August. Compared to the same period last year, arrivals in the first eight months rose by eight percent and overnight stays by two percent.
The concerns about an uncertain high season do not seem confirmed. In August there were 4.6 million arrivals and 31.5 million overnight stays. Compared to the previous year, the number of guests increased by one percent, while overnight stays fell by two percent. The development was similar in July: arrivals rose slightly, while overnight stays stagnated.
Holidaymakers usually stay shorter
“High season tourist traffic in July and August confirms the trend of more holidaymakers arriving, but at the same time staying slightly shorter,” said Kristjan Stanicic, head of the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ). rack. According to Stanicic, despite the current circumstances, including the impact of global inflation and the war in Ukraine, and the fact that competition has returned to full force this year for the first time after the corona pandemic, Croatia has delivered an excellent result.
He also expects strong results in the postseason. Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac shares these expectations: “After the best pre-season in the history of Croatian tourism, we are entering the post-season with great optimism,” she said.
Austrians in the top 3
Croatia is also a popular holiday destination for Austrians, who are traditionally among the top 3 among foreign tourists. In the first eight months, Austrian guests accounted for 6.6 million overnight stays, of which August alone accounted for two million overnight stays. Of the foreign holidaymakers, only Germans and Slovenians are ahead of the Austrians.
