A 26-year-old paraglider crashed shortly after takeoff on Wednesday afternoon. The young man from Haslach an der Mühl, Upper Austria, apparently encountered turbulence that caused his parachute to flip forward. Another paraglider noticed the accident and administered first aid.
The 26-year-old started around 2 p.m. in the municipality of Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis. But soon after, his paraglider flipped forward, apparently from turbulence, and the athlete began to spin, causing him to crash into the steep terrain.
Another paraglider as a first responder
A paraglider colleague (49) noticed the accident and immediately alerted the rescue services. He then administered first aid.
The 26-year-old was eventually rescued by rope rescue and flown by helicopter to hospital in Linz.
