Early Thursday morning, an articulated truck crashed into a construction site barrier on the Rheintalautobahn near Dornbirn. The consequences were a large-scale action by the fire brigade due to leaking fuel and a traffic jam for kilometers in the direction of Tyrol.
It is not yet clear why the truck driver lost control of his heavy vehicle. What is certain, however, is that the semi-trailer crashed into the construction site barrier without brakes. It was torn from its anchorage and ended up under the vehicle, damaging the fuel tank. As a result, about 650 liters of diesel leaked away. Some of it seeped into the adjacent ground. That is why the expert from the Rijkswaterstaat bureau has ordered the area in question to be removed and professionally disposed of.
The truck was badly damaged in the accident, but fortunately the driver was not injured. During the recovery work, the right lane had to be closed, resulting in a traffic jam of up to eight kilometers.
