After the urination scandal, the Belgian Minister of Justice must apologize

Date:

In the land of Manneken Pis, a ‘Pipigate’ affair is making headlines. The Belgian Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne even had to apologize on Thursday.

He regretted that guests at his 50th birthday party urinated on a police car, he said during a hearing before the Judicial Committee of the Belgian parliament.

“My apologies to all the police officers in the country,” Van Quickenborne said. The Flemish liberal politician admitted that the police officers deployed to protect him “viewed the incident as a personal attack.”

The officers brought his wife flowers for the celebration, “and in return they urinated on her car,” he said indignantly. The minister regretted that some of his guests even relieved themselves three times.

Investigation into insulting officials
Justice is investigating three suspects for insulting officials. Van Quickenborne said he gave the names to investigators himself. The incident on August 14 came to light after the public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into Van Quickenborne’s home in Kortrijk, in the northwest of the country.

The call for resignation is getting louder
The police unions demand that the minister of justice resign. To exonerate himself, Van Quickenborne released video footage from his own security camera. However, this put even more pressure on the minister. Because he shows that he makes a hand gesture in front of his house in the early morning hours as if he is peeing.

Van Quickenborne said he couldn’t remember. The gesture can also have something to do with a hobby: “I play western guitar, maybe it’s a guitar move.”
