A local driver’s license was stolen five times. Every time for driving under the influence. Now the alcoholic demanded the “Alkolock” system from the court.
In 1992, the resident of Salzburg in question obtained his driver’s license. Driving under the influence started in 1997: since then, the affected person has had to surrender his driver’s license four times. The last time, in August 2020, the authority limited the certificate to two years and set clear rules: adherence to alcohol abstinence and the submission of medical reports of alcohol abuse.
Alcoholic wanted to have an alcolock installed
After reports of elevated alcohol levels were received, officials repeatedly asked the man to be examined by the medical officer. This happened at the end of June. Result: negative. Consequence: permanent withdrawal of the driver’s license. The man has filed a complaint against this with the administrative court in Salzburg. He asked the court to reintroduce his driver’s license and install a so-called ‘alcolock’ system in his car.
This is an immobilizer: the car will not start until the built-in alcohol tester indicates zero alcohol content. The problem: The administrative judge is not responsible for this. And the revocation of the license cannot be undone. But the person concerned can request reassignment. Then the authority would have to check again.
By the way: the “Alkolock” is no longer available this year. The ministry canceled the project after five years.
